Workout

Warning: negative stream of consciousness.

I feel the sinister steps of burnout creeping up behind me. Today was the first day in a looooong time that I considered not going to the gym on a scheduled day. My stomach is upset (no idea why). My back is better-ish, but I’m scared to squat now (for no good reason). I hate tracking calories. I can’t get enough protein. I like cheesies. My elbows started to hurt today. I have to run an 8K race in 4 weeks and I’ve never run that distance before…ever. QQ. I am a baby.

Excellent. That is out of me. This weekend, I will chill the fuck out.

I’d like to say thanks to two three guys who really helped me out (you know who you are) with working on a new program. I appreciate it.

I have no idea what I’m doing anymore. I need a program. I don’t want to be a program jumper, but I can’t squat three days a week. I want to, but I shouldn’t. Greyskull sounds cool, but I don’t know. PHAT isn’t for beginners. Need help and seriously thinking about paying an online trainer to customize a program for me.

Being Old(er)

My back hurts. Still can’t squat or deadlift, so going Greyskull LP brotastic for a while, only upper body. But that’s not what this post is about.

You know those lists of questions that you see on Tumblr? The whole “answer these questions”-type thing? I always laugh when I read those posts; I laugh at the absurdity of how they would sound if answered by a 39 year old, married, father of two who is gainfully employed. Here goes:

The last person you kissed screams they love you, you say… “I love you too darling, but let’s not scream it out too loud, the kids are finally sleeping”

Did you get to sleep in today? Ha. On weekdays I get up at 5:30am. On weekends 7:30am

Do you have siblings? I do. I see them much less than I would like (for my sister who is reading this) 

How many kids do you want? Zero. But I have two, so I’m legally obligated to take care of them. 

Who was the last person you held hands with? My 3 year old daughter.

Did you stand on your tippy-toes for your last kiss? My wife is 5’4”. So no.

Do you think if you died, the last person you kissed would care? The life insurance would ease the pain I’m sure, but I’m fairly sure she would care.

Last person to talk on the phone? Senior VP, Retail Products & Services, Canadian Banking

Did anyone watch you the last time you kissed someone? Yup. Actually it was two children. Freaky.

I don’t even know what I’m doing anymore. Without Starting Strength, I’m feeling a little lost. This was all upper body and it was rough. By the time I got to chins, my arms were a mess - could barely do one in the first set. I think I’m going back to SS…maybe just reduce the squatting a bit.

Fasted training. Trying to get into the swing of going to the gym on off (non-lifting) days to do other stuff. This was nice and quick and not very hard, but I didn’t feel like pushing too hard today.

Running (treadmill):
